Paul Williams

Paul Williams is a proofreader for the Jamaica Gleaner, and a writer of a weekly Gleaner feature called His Story on Mondays. He has worked as a proofreader for a number of local publishers, including: the Jamaica Herald and Gleaner Company, and currently works for Carlong Publishers. He is also a self-publisher, fiction writer and songwriter. Williams was trained at the University of the West Indies, where he graduated with a degree in Media and Communication, specializing in audio-visual production. He also attended the University of Manchester, England.

Proofreading and Copy Editing

Learn the difference between proofreading and copy editing. Discover the art of creating and editing clear, concise and error-free documents. This course will focus on proofreading and editing for newspaper, magazine and book publishing but will arm you transferable skills that are applicable to all written material. Individual and group exercises will help participants to master grammar and editing techniques discussed in the course. The course will comprise topics such as use of punctuation, active vs. passive voice, acronyms and techniques for eliminating jargon and wordiness.
